Where and why Religion comes from

9/13/2007

Basic Religion

The world religion was interesting last night. I personally didn't know that the "Caveman" practice religions. The caveman's Religion was "Neanderthal" this people actually buried the death with their belongings to offered them to the gods. I would've never though of the "Caveman" that way. We also read stories and compared them to some kind of practice in the religion like Taboo, Anamism, Divination, Shamam, Magic,Totemism, Ancestor, Sacrifice, Myth, Rituals and Rite of passage. In our story we were able to find comparasing with these. We knew that the flout and the smoke was a symbol of Taboo, and that the son's grand father was Ancestors. We also compared the Buffalo with Anamism, we found a Myth which was the Buffalo turning white.
The question that comes up is Why or where Religion comes from? Who knows, we do know that exists back from the "Ice man" which leads me to believe that perhaps there was God and that God told his Creation to belief in a higher power. Maybe since humans were born from the very beginin it was just natural to practice what ever they though it was right. Maybe they just acted by instincts or that nature. For ex: when you kill you know is bad but, if you kill to eat its OK, because how would you survive. See by comparing you are believing already. It is a question that we jet have not find a good answer for. We will spend the next couple of months trying to figured this out,

A question that lurks behind your "maybe they just acted by instinct or nature": Could the god/gods build in instincts for what they want people to do/believe is right? In some forms that's an idea called natural theology. What other explanations could there be for such instincts?

I liked you thoughts on religion. I to have often wondered why religion is so powerful in human beings. Is religion for the followers. To make our lives better to bring us closer to a higher being. Or is religion for the powerful and rich. A way to control the flock. Make sure we are so scared we don't think for our selves.
